The Scala Corset Coat
The Scala Corset Coat takes its name from the Italian word for staircase, and it was made for the kind you descend slowly. A cream corset bodice with a fine croc texture meets a full-length knife-pleated skirt, finished with trench details and gold-tone buttons.
The bodice is shaped with seaming down the front and closes with gold buttons, framed by notched lapels with cut-out detailing at the collar and a structured neckline beneath. Sculpted panels flare out at the hip and come to a sharp point at the front, then give way to deep pleats that fall to the floor and move with every step. Epaulettes and buckled cuff tabs bring the trench back into it.
Wear it two ways. Buttoned all the way, it is a dress for an evening event, a gallery opening or a winter wedding. Open, it is a coat: over black trousers and a simple top, the pleats sweep out behind you like a train.

VIVIAN’S STYLING NOTE
